Sigiriya Lion Rock, a famous ancient fortress, rises nearly 200 meters. Built by King Kasyapa (477-495 AD) as his capital, it features frescoed walls and a palace atop the rock. The fortress is accessible through a massive carved lion’s mouth, offering a glimpse into Sri Lanka's history.

Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage

Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, established in 1975 in Sri Lanka, is a conservation center for wild Asian elephants. It houses the world's largest captive herd with 71 elephants in 2023. The orphanage cares for orphaned elephants and saw its first twin elephant birth in 80 years in 2021, marking a historic event.

Sri Dalada Maligawa

Sri Dalada Maligawa, The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy, Sri Lanka, enshrines Buddha's left tooth and is a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1988. With unique Kandyan architecture, it holds immense cultural and religious significance. The relic, brought in 301-328 AD, symbolizes Sri Lankan kingship and continues to be venerated today.

Uda Walawe National Park

Uda Walawe National Park, known for its herds of elephants, wild buffaloes, sambars, and spotted deer, is one of Sri Lanka's top wildlife destinations. With around 600 elephants, it's renowned for elephant watching. The park, centered around the Uda Walawe Reservoir, has a unique, lightly vegetated landscape that makes game viewing easy.

Mirissa

Mirissa Beach, with its powdery sand and azure waters framed by coconut palms, is a tropical paradise. The west side offers the widest sandy stretch and a popular surf spot. A sandbar connects to a tiny island at low tide. However, coastal erosion has affected the eastern section, and development has reduced shade.

Nine Arch Bridge

Completed in 1919, the bridge was designed to navigate a challenging nine-degree curve and steep gradient. Built by local labor under British supervision, it overcame logistical challenges like difficult terrain and material transport. Its resilient structure features innovative engineering, including concrete cornice blocks and sand-cement facing.

Ceylon Tea

Ceylon tea, produced in Sri Lanka, is a key part of the country's culture and identity. The Sri Lanka Tea Board owns the Lion Logo, which is registered in 98 countries. In 2019, Sri Lanka was the fourth largest tea producer and third largest exporter. However, rising production costs challenge the industry. Nuwara Eliya is one of Sri Lanka's most famous tea-growing regions.

Colombo

Explore Colombo in a full-day tour that blends the old and new, visiting key attractions like the National Museum, Gangaramaya Temple, Colombo Fort, Independence Square, Galle Face Green, and more. Enjoy historical sites, serene parks, and some classic Colombo shopping at Odel and Cotton Collection.

The Bullock Cart

The bullock cart, once a popular mode of transport in Sri Lanka, is now used for unique tours. A 2.5-hour journey begins with a ride through rural tracks near Sigiriya rock, pulled by two bulls. Along the way, enjoy sightings of wildlife and birds, with the ride concluding near a serene lake.

Madu River

Madu River (or Madu Ganga) in Balapitiya, Sri Lanka, is a stunning coastal wetland, rich in biodiversity. Covering 915 hectares, with 64 islands, it's a hotspot for aquatic life, housing 70 fish species, 31 reptiles, and 50 butterfly types. It's a must-visit eco-tourism destination near Bentota and Galle.

Despite South Indian invasions, rulers like Dutthagamani and Valagamba unified the kingdom. Known for advanced irrigation and iconic monuments like Sigiriya and Ruwanwelisaya, Anuradhapura showcased remarkable engineering and artistry.

Gem Museum

Sri Lanka, known as "Ratna-Dweepa" (Gem Island), boasts a rich gem history with renowned stones like sapphires, rubies, and topazes. With 90% of its gems formed in ancient Precambrian rocks, the island holds one of the world's densest gem deposits, covering 25% of its land.

Sea Turtle Conservation
